花の名 (Hana no Na) - BUMP OF CHICKEN

Here's a song from Bump of Chicken, one of my favorite bands. I can't believe that they're still making good songs after so many years now. I'm afraid though that a lot of the meaning of the original was lost in this translation. Although a lot of my translations are wrong anyway. So, I don't know. Anyway, here you go, another rough translation from me. I hope you enjoy it.

ガラクタノユメ (Garakuta no Yume) - Buono!

Here's another song from girl group Buono!. Apparently, ガラクタ (garakuta) translates to: junk, garbage, trash, rubbish, odds and ends, etc. I'm not too sure which translation to choose, so I went with rubbish. Also, the songs aren't the usual ones where there are single isolatable thoughts per line, but the ideas spill over to the next line. As such, I had a tougher time translating this. Besides that, there's still the I/you ambiguity, so I can't figure out if the singer is singing to herself or to another. Maybe it's just a feature of Japanese songs, or maybe I'm not capable of detecting such nuances as of yet. Furthermore, I didn't realize that Buono!'s songs were actually bittersweet until I translated these two songs of theirs. All the while I've been thinking that they being a girl group, they would have cheerier songs. Anyway, the song isn't as popular as Honto no Jibun, but I hope you enjoy it as well.

ホントのじぶん (Honto no Jibun) - Buono!

Here's a song from girl group Buono!. They appear to be fairly popular in Japan, and this song is probably their most popular song as of yet. Not to mention very catchy, and probably a bit encouraging at times as well. Note that the song is vague in that it isn't clear (well, at least for me) whether the singer is singing to herself, or to another person, although I am inclined to believe that it's for another. I tried my best to translate the song without the I/you bias, so you'll just have to fill in the blanks. For example, "honto no jibun" simply means true self/ real self but it can be translated to "my true self" or "your true self" depending on the context. Anyway enjoy.

First post. Good day.

I woke up a while ago with the idea of translating Japanese songs so that I can improve my Japanese language reading and understanding skills, and my decaying and atrophying writing and communication skills. So, that's what I'm going to do. We'll see how long I can sustain this blog.
